Recording Method:

All tracks are original compositions and were recorded on an ancient Fostex 4 track tape recorder, an acoustic guitar, a Shure Beta58 and a Boss SE-50 processor.

- Bass added on a few tracks after initial recordings. -

Recorded specifically for use as pre-production reference demos for band members prior to entering the recording studio.

Raw production. No pro-tools. No editing. No computer. Old school recording committing everything to tape and hoping for the best.

Posting these demos to get a general consensus on which tracks leave an impression and might warrant full studio production.

In anticipation of hitting the studio to record the third 'Vinyl Sun' album, a couple members of the band boarded a plane for Thailand and spent a couple of months on Ko Samet island developing new material and putting ideas down in an acoustic demo format.

This marked an especially prolific writing & recording period as a large volume of songs were recorded on a portable 4 track tape machine intended as reference tracks for band members.

Recording only in an acoustic format with very limited tools enhanced a creative focus on vocal arrangements and harmonies.

A couple of solos were created running a vocal through the SE-50 FX unit with distortion to create a kazoo like sound. This was done on 'Getting Kinda Nowhere' and 'Addicted'.

Some of the tracks demoed were songs originally written many years ago while still in our teenage years and which we felt were worthy of dusting off and reworking while in Thailand.

We left Thailand with a really good tan, some brilliant memories and a pocket full of tunes.

Lo-fi

Originally known only as a technique for making recordings, Lo-Fi -- shortspeak for low-fidelity -- is now a vibrant subgenre of Indie Rock. As the media embraced this budding sub-genre and gave it its two minutes, it became a musical/political statement of sorts.

An intentional nose-thumbing to the glitzy, cookie-cutter albums major labels often churn out -- as well as being a minimalist form of art -- these records were notoriously produced on $200 four-tracks using cheap microphones.
